Retro-Pay Bargaining 2024

When will I receive my RETRO and WAGE INCREASES from the 2024 round of bargaining?
Quick answer is: 120 days after ratification. 

Let’s go over a few facts first:

Facility Support Bargaining Unit and Community Support Bargaining Unit follow the same collective agreement, and the same language but are split by classifications. 

The classifications who work hands on with patients, clients, residents fall under the Community Support Bargaining Unit. (CSBU)

FSBU in Local 4270 members agreed to the tentative agreement on August 29, 2024. Therefore, 120 days after ratification for the FSBU brings us to Dec 27, 2024.

CSBU for Local 4270 members agreed to the tentative agreement on October 18, 2024. Therefore, 120 days after ratification for the CSBU brings us to Feb 15, 2025.

What to expect… retro payments and wage scale changes happen after the CA has been ratified:
-The employer will pick a cut off date and have your new wage increase on a forward going basis. 
-From this same cut off date the employer will use it to calculate the retro back to April 1, 2024.

Historically, these changes will often come in 2 stages so be mindful of the changes when it does happen and as always be sure to check your paystub. 

IMPORTANT: If you have any questions or ever feel that there has been an error made on your paycheque here are the steps that you can take to have it looked into further:

  • Reach out to your site/area VP. 
  • Have a discussion with your manager, or RC about it and
  • If an error has been found: – A payroll discrepancy form may be filled out by your manager or RC.

You will need to have the facts, and dates of errors that you feel have occurred to bring to both your union rep as well as your manager or RC. Always keep a copy of any requests that you have made. 

We do not have a breakdown of what your retro will be. Each member’s circumstances are subject to unpaid leaves, and are based on hours worked. What we have provided is an estimator on our website/portal. THIS IS AN ESTIMATOR ONLY and based on if worked consistently with no unpaid hours. Please keep that in mind. 

What if I have retired since April 1, 2024, left the organization since April 1, 2024, terminated employment since April 1, 2024, or plan on ending employment this year etc?

  • Fill out the attached form and send it to the appropriate address found on the 2nd page of the form. If you were in Southern Health send it to Payrollsupport@southernhealth.ca
  • If you are currently employed, you do not need to fill out the form. 
  • If you are planning on ending your employment at any time… ALWAYS fill out this form and keep a copy for your records. 

IF YOU HAVE LEFT THE ORGANIZATION AND DO NOT REQUEST THIS… YOU WILL NOT BE PAID RETRO. 

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY WORKING FOR THE ORGANIZATION:THERE IS NO NEED TO FILL ONE OUT, YOU WILL BE PAID AUTOMATICALLY.

Cut off dates to have this form completed and sent are:
* February 25, 2025 Southern Health Employer Organization (CUPE Facility Support Bargaining Unit) 
* April 16, 2025 for Southern Health Employer Organization (CUPE- Community Support Bargaining Unit)
